Iran short film ‘Gaze’ qualifies for Academy Award

Iranian short film ‘Gaze’ has received Best Film Award from the 31st edition of American Film Institute Festival and has been qualified for Academy Award known as Oscar for the second consecutive year.

‘Gaze’, written by Ali Asgari and directed by Farnoush Samadi, has so far represented Iran at a number of globally acclaimed film festivals, including the 70th edition of the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and the 34th edition of the Tehran Short Film Festival in Iran.

The short film depicts the story of a woman who on her way back home learns about an incident on the bus. She is undecided whether to reveal the issue or not.

Founded by a 1965 presidential mandate announced in the Rose Garden of the White House by Lyndon B. Johnson, the American Film Institute (AFI) is an American film organization that educates filmmakers and honors the heritage of the motion picture arts in the United States. AFI is supported by private funding and public membership.

  The 31st edition of American Film Institute Festival was held on November 9-16, 2017, Los Angeles, the US.
